HOW TO RIDE IN A PACK

Check out this article written by Biltwell Bill posted on Chopcult a few years ago about riding in a pack. If you're used to riding alone, just starting out, or uncomfortable riding with a pack, there are some good tips in the article to keep you and the people around you safe.

At the end of Bill's article there's a photocopy of the original article "HOW TO RIDE IN A PACK" originally published in Roth's "Choppers" Magazine from 1967. Pretty awesome.

"Get in your slot, get an acceptable interval between you and the next rider and keep the pace. Nothing balls up momentum and throws everyone off like some jackass in the middle who keeps running up on the next guy and backing off. Adjust this interval to suit the riding environment. On the freeway I always tighten it up so that nerd in the Prius doesn't cut into the pack. On mountain twisties, give yourself enough room to recover if the guy in front of you runs out of talent. The last thing you want to do is wad up the whole pack because you were following too close for no good reason."

MAP update V3 - Finalized

Here's the final route. We added sections north of Skaneateles to avoid traffic and construction through Auburn, and a ride through Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. The total ride is 189 miles, which will take ~ 6 hours (including a stop in Ithaca).

We leave at Noon, Saturday August 16th from Recess Coffee House (110 Harvard Pl, Syracuse, NY 13210).

Come prepared and gassed up.

MAP Update

The route has been updated a little to accommodate for a more scenic route, and to avoid any known construction. We'll now be heading down 89 South (west side of Cayuga Lake) instead of the east side, and we'll be avoiding Cortland altogether. We've added ~30 miles, heading to 79 east to Whitney Point from Ithaca, to 26 North. This is making the ride currently 177 miles ~ 4.2 hours.

We'll be stopping for gas every 60 miles for anyone will a smaller tank. We'll also be stopping at Ithaca Bakery for lunch. See the updated map below.
